What would you say are the "must-reads" of modern French literature?
I mean, more recent than Moliere, Balzac and Zola. I would definitely say, "Bonjour Tristesse" by Francoise Sagan, "Le Petit Prince" and Le Silence de la mer", but what others would you say are "must-reads?" Many thanks!
Well, some years ago I studied Arabic with French at university and these are the ones I remember reading:
Andre Gide, l’Immoraliste.
Albert Camus, L’Etranger.
Jean-Paul Sartre, Huis-clos
Marcel Proust, A la recherche du temps perdu
Alain Robbe-Grillet, La Jalousie; Dans le labyrinthe
Eugene Ionesco, Rhinoceros (play)
Though there are plenty more!
